Poéticas de la imagen digital
Valdés,Sylvia;
Cuadernos del Centro de Estudios en Dise?±o y Comunicaci?3n. Ensayos , 2012,
Abstract: the present essay discusses digital arts from the construction of theoretical categories that feed the disciplines of linguistics, epistemology and psychoanalysis. through the analysis of work of technological and transformational spirit characteristics, and in cases of study that navigates on the margins of society such as the borda's artist front, the essay condenses a theoretical background that links work, authors and ideas from the diversity that is necessary for the treatment of a complex paradigm. this way, the critical questioning and the political enviroment show themselves as the foundation for the positive subversion that works as a trademark for todays art.
Digital Differentiation in Young People’s Internet Use—Eliminating or Reproducing Disability Stereotypes

Future Internet , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/fi5020190
Abstract: Norwegian authorities’ policy aims at securing an information society for all, emphasizing the importance of accessible and usable Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for everyone. While the body of research on young people’s use of ICT is quite comprehensive, research addressing digital differentiation in young people with disabilities’ use of ICT is still in its early days. This article investigates how young people with disabilities’ use, or non-use, of assistive ICT creates digital differentiations. The investigation elaborates on how the anticipations and stereotypes of disability establish an authoritative definition of assistive ICT, and the consequence this creates for the use of the Web by young people with disabilities. The object of the article is to provide enhanced insight into the field of technology and disability by illuminating how assistive ICT sometimes eliminates and sometimes reproduces stereotypes and digital differentiations. The investigation draws on a qualitative interview study with 23 young Norwegians with disabilities, aged 15–20 years. I draw on a theoretical perspective to analyze the findings of the study, which employs the concept of identity multiplicity. The article’s closing discussion expands on technology’s significance in young people’s negotiations of impairment and of perceptions of disability.

Abstract: Measures of adult lung function, which are used in the assessment of COPD, have been associated with several dozens of genetic variants. Wain et al. using an unweighted risk score based on 95 variants have previously shown that these variants predict COPD (1). This time after identifying over a hundred new variants from data on 400,000 adults from UK Biobank and SpiroMeta, they built a weighted risk score to predict COPD in about 6,000 cases and found that this score improved disease prediction (2). What is the clinical relevance of these findings? What do these variants tell us about the underlying mechanisms of COPD? Hopefully the future will bring answers to these questions

Abstract: APAP overdose resulted in liver necrosis, massive neutrophil infiltration and large non-perfused areas, as well as remote lung inflammation. In the liver, these effects were significantly abrogated after ATP metabolism by apyrase or P2X receptors blockage, but none of the treatments prevented remote lung inflammation, suggesting a confined local contribution of purinergic signaling into liver environment. In vitro, APAP administration to primary mouse hepatocytes and also HepG2 cells caused cell death in a dose-dependent manner. Interestingly, exposure of HepG2 cells to APAP elicited significant release of ATP to the supernatant in levels that were high enough to promote direct cytotoxicity to healthy primary hepatocytes or HepG2 cells. In agreement to our in vivo results, apyrase treatment or blockage of P2 receptors reduced APAP cytotoxicity. Likewise, ATP exposure caused significant higher intracellular Ca2+ signal in APAP-treated primary hepatocytes, which was reproduced in HepG2 cells. Quantitative real time PCR showed that APAP-challenged HepG2 cells expressed higher levels of several purinergic receptors, which may explain the hypersensitivity to extracellular ATP. This phenotype was confirmed in humans analyzing liver biopsies from patients diagnosed with acute hepatic failure.We suggest that under pathological conditions, ATP may act not only an immune system activator, but also as a paracrine direct cytotoxic DAMP through the dysregulation of Ca2+ homeostasis.

Abstract: a comparative study on the occurrence of strongyloides stercoralis larvae in 554 patients with aids and in 142 patients suffering from infectious diseases other than aids was conducted during the period from january 1987 to december 1988. the two groups was constituted by male individuals in-patients at emílio ribas hospital - s?o paulo. faeces samples from 696 patients were submitted to spontaneous sedimentation method and rugai method. the data obtained from the present investigation demonstrated a similar prevalence of strongyloides stercoralis in both groups (p > 0.05) indicating no significant statistical differences.

Abstract: this cross sectional study included children aged 12 to 60 months attended by the public health service in the city of vi?osa, state of minas gerais. the objective was to evaluate the prevalences of anemia and serious anemia, the hemoglobin levels and the relation between nutritional status and iron deficiency anemia in these children. for the diagnosis of anemia, (hemocue) was used, and the cutoff point of 11.0 g/dl proposed by the world health organization for anemia, and was adopted serious anemia, was adopted 9,5g/dl. a total of 171 children was evaluated; 62.2% were anemic and 43.5% of these were seriously anemic. analyzing the nutritional status, a high percentage of under nourished children was found, according to the indexes weight/age, weight/height and height/age (11.7%, 7.0% and 5.8%, respectively). a high prevalence of anemia was observed among the earlier groups. no association was verified between anemia and nutritional status. therefore, it is necessary to work towards anemia prevention and to alert the health professionals to an early diagnosis, prophylaxis and treatment.

Investigaciones marinas , 2003, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-71782003000200001
Abstract: a taxonomic key to identify fish species of the chilean superorden batoidea, grouped in the families: rhinobatidae, pseudorajidae, rajidae, narcidae, torpedinidae, dasyatidae, urolophidae, myliobatidae and mobulidae is presented. for the currently 38 batoid species considered, the geographic distribution is indicated
Claves taxonómicas para el reconocimiento dentario en taxa del superorden Rajomorphii de Chile (Chondrichthyes, Batoidea)
Sáez,Sylvia; Lamilla,Julio;
Latin american journal of aquatic research , 2012,
Abstract: a series of keys with external and internal dental morphologic features for the identification of each order, family and genus of rays and skates of the batoids known in chile, are presented. in the case of families rhinobatidae, torpedinidae, narcinidae, myliobatidae, mobulidae, dasyatidae and urotrygonidae, an identification at the species level is possible. in other cases, due to limitations imposed by the existing knowledge, only discrimination up to genus is allowed. these keys are a complementary tool for the diagnosis of rays suitable for the identification of dental fragments, paleontological discoveries of teeth as well as for jaw teeth. this tool offers a novel taxonomic support, which includes dental features different from those considered nowadays for this superorder.
